Welcome to Ten Below! My name is Rende Coward. I am your Ten Below Hostess and I’ll be taking care of you tonight. The Joshua’s Ten Below is a lot like the Enterprise’s Ten Forward, but a whole lot cooler! The members of Ten Below are affectionately called the “Flakes” since we hang out in such a cool spot. Basically, we are the Party People! If it has to do with fun and games, we’re the ones to call.
I’ve been a member of the Joshua for over 20 years. I met the Joshua folk when they were doing security and “costume color” for The Four Captains fundraiser gala for The Science Place. While there I met my future first Captain, Bert Copeland, and people that would become my closest friends ever.
My family had always been big fans of science fiction, having even participated in the historic write-in campaign to Save Star Trek back in the 60’s. Until I met the Joshua crew, I never had an outlet for my passion love affair with Sci-Fi. While most of my contemporaries were watching westerns and cop shows, I grew up watching Lost in Space, the Time Tunnel, Star Trek, the Twilight Zone and Battlestar Galactica. As soon as I met the Joshua crew, I knew I had come home.
The Joshua is not your Father’s Star Trek or Sci-Fi Club. You’ll find no pocket protectors and horned-rimmed glasses here! You’ll find creative, intelligent (sometimes too intelligent!) people who just happen to share a love for science fiction in all its forms. Within the club we have several sub groups of pilots, motorcycle riders, Renaissance enthusiasts and artists and craftsmen. Some are very skilled at Creature Effects make-up while others excel at costuming.
